Joie de vivre!

I saw this fatso taking an afternoon nap after its lunch and I can’t help but think of this motto:

Array of Antipasto Platter @ Jamie’s Italian, Singapore

You can see them cleverly using Tomato Cans to elevate their antipasti platters in order to facilitate our dining.

“Are the 2 cans meant for me and my lovely dining partner to bring home?” I quipped.

“Of course, No!” the waitress replied in jest.

“Better than Katong Laksa”

….in my humble opinion. At least there are no flies hovering around you when you are slurping your lip-smacking bowl of laksa at The Dining Room @ Sheraton Towers Singapore. (For those who have tried Katong Laksa will be able to empathize!)

As you slurp, you also savour the scenic view of the waterfall right before your eyes. Joie de vivre!

The aromatic coconut-based curry gravy embraced the springy rice noodles harmoniously; accompanied with bean curd puffs, quail eggs, freshwater prawns, julienned cucumbers and a dollop of freshly-made exotic sambal belacan chilli. What more can you ask for on a Saturday afternoon?

My only grouch for this Sheraton Towers dish is the absence of cockles…which will make my afternoon perfect!

Changi Airport has raised The Bar in its Toilet Cleaning Services

Remember my quite some time ago  blog post on “Toilet has iPad” (http://zonrecommends.blogspot.sg/2011/07/toilet-has-ipad-singapore.html)? Now Changi Airport has upped the ante by including the cleaner’s name (so that you can feedback) and a little message that emphasized the ‘iPad’ screen is being sanitized regularly (in case you are a clean freak).

It goes without saying that Changi Airport has raved numerous accolades for their crème de la crème customer care!

They have even invited their tenants (shops, restaurants) to do likewise. Voila!

Grease Lock Filters.......Another Kitchen Technology Discovered!

So what are Grease Lock Filters?

Grease Lock Filters (GLF) are installed in front of the traditional baffle filters preceding the cooker hood acting as first line of defence; absorbing up to 99% of the heavier grease particles (6 to 8 microns). Therefore grease is removed and prevented from building up on the baffle filters and the interior of cooker hoods.

GLF are inherently fire retardant and reduce fire risk to boot! Baffle filters, cooker hoods, duct system and air cleaners subsequently require lesser cleaning and maintenance which eventually further reduce labour, water and electricity usage; thus saving lots of costs!

GLF are very simple to retrofit and replace when soiled. Furthermore, they are biodegradable and easy to dispose without affecting the environment!

The Latest Technology Used In Dining Establishments…

This isn’t the common air purifier which you most probably would have thought so. Retrofitted with ActivePure technology consisting of a RCI (Radiant Catalytic Ionization) Cell, UV lamp and Unipolar Ioniser that is Certified Space Technology by NASA affiliated Space Foundation. It can effectively eliminate repulsive smell like cheese odor and even kill bacteria such as E.coli and Salmonella which any kitchen will steer clear of. This novel invention has my thumbs up!

Fruit Porn...

Oranges with teats that look like a crossbreed between lemon and orange. In fact, they are called ‘Minneola Tangelo’ which is produced by Sunkist…

Minneola Tangelos are easily identified by the knob-like formation at the stem end. This fruit tends to grow large in size and will display a deep red-orange exterior color. They have a delicious tart-sweet flavor. Minneolas have a smooth to slightly pebbled texture, peel very easily, and have few if any seeds. Minneola Tangelos are available from mid Dec through April.” *

The intrinsic tartness puckers my lips and yet the beguiling zesty scent perks me up instantly!

My Chinese Banquet in Church!

A loving team of church parents prepared a Chinese-banquet-styled luncheon to thank my friends and I for helping out at an event last year. They pushed the envelope by converting one of the church function rooms into a temporary Chinese Restaurant look-alike and came up with a 9-course banquet which knocked our socks off! Some of the parents and kids even doubled as wait staff to wait on us. And here's the astounding menu:

Fizzy Mocktails

Cold Dish

Salubrious Soup

Herbalised Chicken

Green Pak Choi & Mushrooms

Braised Pork Ribs in Vinegar

Garlicky Prawns

Steamy Fish

Fortune Fried Rice

Green Bean Paste

We are definitely encouraged and touched by their sincere hearts and efforts to greatly appreciate us in return!
